Here are the suggestions for the proposed Stevens Middle School name change

PORT ANGELES – Local landmarks and traditional names were listed on Wednesday as the choices under consideration for the Port Angeles School District middle school.

The public is invited to comment on the choices:

  • Klahhane Middle School.

  • Lincoln Middle School.

  • Pacific Middle School.

  • Port Angeles Middle School

  • Stevens Middle School.

  • Strait View Middle School.

The proposed names were given Wednesday to a committee appointed by Superintendent Gary Cohn to bring options to the board for renaming the present Stevens Middle School.

The present Stevens campus will become the only middle school in the district in September, after Fairview Elementary School closes at the end of this school year and the present Roosevelt Middle School is converted to an elementary campus.

The present Stevens campus will house seventh and eighth grades.

Roosevelt and Stevens staff and students voted on the names last week and forwarded their choices to the Middle School Transition Team for review.

The board will consider a new name – as well as the cost of naming a facility – at its meeting on April 16.

The meeting will being at 7 p.m. at Dry Creek Elementary School, 25 Rife Road.

Public comment – including comments from students throughout the district – will be accepted until April 7.

Students from all schools, including elementary and high school levels, also are encouraged to offer feedback.

Comments may be sent by e-mail to info@pasd.wednet.edu or mailed to Superintendent, Port Angeles School District, 216 East Fourth Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

The names are listed on the district’s Web site at www.portangelesschools.org/.
