PORT ANGELES — High tea and high fashion helped raise funds Wednesday for therapy for children with disabilities.
The Elks Naval Lodge in Port Angeles held a High Tea to support the Tall Elks program, which provides free occupational and physical therapy at the homes of eligible children.
About 50 people showed up at the third high tea offered by the lodge at 131 E. First St.
Black Diamond Bridal showed off the latest in prom and bridal apparel, while Amanda Bacon performed a short piece from the Port Angeles Light Opera Association’s summer piece “Into the Woods.”
“This was our kick off for the year, with our new officers installed,” said Arlene Blume, club manager.
Similar teas were offered both last spring and in November. About 50 people attended each time.
“It has been a big hit,” Blume said.
“We’re planning on it twice year, if we can get the people out for it.
“We hope to build up to 100 people coming.”
The Tall Elks program is for children with developmental or physical disabilities who, because of their fragile medical condition or lack of transportation or other resources, might otherwise go without services.
“Our program covers Port Townsend, Port Angeles and Sequim,” Blume said.
“It is a huge need everywhere with children, because there are just so many debilitating diseases out there.”
“With Tall Elks, we also train the parents to help their kids with therapy during the rest of the week,” Blume said.
“It is like a diet. If you only do it once a week it won’t work.
“So there is a lot of training and a lot of therapy that goes on.”
