PORT ANGELES – The sign on U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles telling motorists the number of days without a serious collision on the highway read “215” on Wednesday.
Thursday, it was reset to 1.
Two hundred fifteen days is the highest number without a serious wreck that the sign has noted since it was installed in April 2006.
But the injuries sustained by 70-year old Kay Lynn Clure of Poulsbo in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon were serious enough to reset the sign.
Clure was listed in serious condition in Harborview Medical Center’s intensive care unit in Seattle Thursday.
Clure drove her Jeep Cherokee into a fir tree near the entrance to Sequim Bay State Park.
