PORT ANGELES — The full closure of U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent might last for one more day.
Olympic National Park officials announced Wednesday that the planned four-day closure of the highway at milepost 229 near Barnes Point, which began Monday, might be in place until 6 p.m. Friday.
The closure for rock scaling work was scheduled to end at 6 p.m. today.
The highway will reopen as soon as possible, but travelers should plan for the potential that the closure might last until 6 p.m. Friday, park officials said.
“We recognize the importance of the Highway 101 corridor to the public and the inconvenience that the closure has caused,” Olympic National Park acting Superintendent Lee Taylor said in a Wednesday press release.
“Public safety has to take precedence over time.”
