The Christmas holidays arrive this weekend with these events:
Port Angeles
* Today, 5:45 p.m. — Festival of Trees, sponsored by the Port Angeles Exchange Club and the Olympic Medical Center Foundation with the theme “Northern Christmas Lights.”‘
Decorated Christmas trees and wreaths will be auctioned during a dinner at Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.
This event is almost sold out; check on tickets with Roy or Mary Gotham at The Toggery, 360-457-4303.
* Saturday and Sunday — Festival of Trees Family Days.
Senior breakfast, live entertainment, opportunity to purchase Christmas tree toppers/centerpieces and enter drawings for several decorated trees and wreaths. Admission at the door is $4 for those age 12 and older.
* Saturday, 4 p.m. — Community Christmas Tree lighting and Santa’s arrival at the downtown William Dyar Fountain, First and Laurel streets.
Complimentary refreshments. Children will be able to line up to receive “miscellaneous goodies” from Santa.
* Sunday, 9:30 a.m. — Jingle Bell Run & Walk. Begins at Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St. The course runs down Lincoln Street and turns around at the Waterfront Trail to finish at City Pier. An awards ceremony, hot cocoa and refreshments follow at The Landing mall.
Sequim
* Today, 5 p.m. — “Lighting of the Lights,” Bank of America Park, North Sequim Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Sequim.
Guess how many Christmas lights in Sequim and enter to win $300 SunBucks (sponsored by PDN).
SunBucks work like traveler’s checks and can be used like cash at participating Sequim businesses.
* Saturday, noon — Performance by Sequim City Band at Bank of America Park.
At 12:45 p.m., announcement of the winner of the $300 SunBucks (participants need not be present to win).
At 1 p.m., Santa arrives at Bank of America Park.
Port Townsend
* Saturday, 1 p.m., Merchant Open House will feature horse and carriage rides downtown until 4 p.m. (small fee).
Caroling in the streets.
Enter the $2,000 Town Dollars holiday sweepstakes. (Town Dollars are like traveler’s checks and can be used like cash at participating Port Townsend businesses.)
Many shops open until 7 p.m.
