BREMERTON — A backpack found on the Hood Canal Bridge at about 12:20 p.m. prompted a shutdown of the bridge for about two hours Sunday while a Washington State Patrol bomb unit investigated.
The backpack contained only a bicyclist’s clothing, said Jonathan Pitts, a dispatcher for Washington State Patrol based at the Bremerton communication station.
The State Patrol was alerted that an abandoned backpack was on the bridge at about 12:20 p.m., the bridge was closed and the bomb unit was sent to investigate.
After determining that it had posed no threat, the bridge was reopened at about 2:10 p.m.
