Today’s the day that the Hood Canal Bridge will be closed for up to 30 minutes at a time to allow crews to conduct ballast checks on the east end of the floating span.
The closures will be intermittent between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., a state Department of Transportation spokesman said.
Maintenance crews will check and adjust the east-end draw span during the closures, specifically examining operations of the bridge’s new anchor cable installed last month.
The broken anchor cable was discovered Aug. 11 during routine maintenance inspections. Work to repair the cable was finished Sept. 30.
