Hood Canal Bridge to close for three hours tonight

SHINE – Crews will intermittently close the Hood Canal Bridge to vehicular traffic tonight and Thursday morning for construction work.

The closure is scheduled for 11 p.m. tonight to 2 a.m. Thursday.

The construction work and closure is dependent on the tides and may be adjusted, the state Department of Transportation said in a press release issued this afternoon.

During this three-hour time frame, crews will open the bridge to traffic numerous times to ease congestion. The traffic openings will be unscheduled and performed as workloads allow.

Drivers are advised to assume that the bridge will be largely unavailable for use, Transportation said.

Depending on work progress, additional night closures may be scheduled.

Contractor crews are replacing the Hood Canal Bridge’s gear boxes, hydraulic hoses and adjusting and aligning the guide rollers that are responsible for operating the draw span for marine traffic.

Transportation awarded the $5.2 million project to Northbank Civil and Marine Inc. in October.
