EDEN VALLEY — A family of seven has been routed from their two-story home after fire destroyed the structure early today.
Clallam County Fire District No. 2 Chief John Bugher said the roof of the 2,000-square-foot house, owned by Randy and Gloria Smith at 468 Sandhagen Road, between Port Angeles and Joyce, was on fire.
One of the Smiths had awakened to see an orange glow reflected on the side of a semi trailer parked nearby and called 9-1-1, Bugher reported.
A total of 16 firefighters, buoyed by three paramedics, managed to save a nearby garage and motor vehicles — including the semi trailer — but the house was destroyed.
Cause of the fire was undetermined, Bugher said.
A tender and two-person crew from Fire District No. 2 remained at the scene to extinguish hot spots and prevent further fires.
Meantime, the Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
