Indonesian city’s officials arrive in Port Angeles to view municipal operations

PORT ANGELES — Four officials from an Indonesian city arrived here Saturday for a weeklong stay as part of a federally funded technical assistance program.

The visit is a follow-up to a similar one in April by City Manager Mike Quinn and Public Works Director Glenn Cutler to the Indonesian city of Tanjung Redep.

The group that arrived Saturday includes Tanjung Redep’s director of public works; the director for city affairs, which also handles sanitation and the fire department; the director for planning and finance; and the secretary of the City Council, the equivalent to a city clerk.

The visitors will view Port Angeles’ municipal infrastructure — the landfill, water and sewage treatment systems, other capital facilities and their planning, and storm drainage projects.

The visitors are accompanied by an interpreter and a program manager from the International City/County Management Association, which is sponsoring the exchange program.

The visitors arrived at William R. Fairchild International Airport on Saturday afternoon and will stay through Friday.
