PORT TOWNSEND — Jay Inslee, Democratic congressman from Bainbridge Island who is running for governor, won’t make it to the Jefferson County Democratic Party’s Fish Feast on Sunday.
Inslee was scheduled to make his first Jefferson County campaign appearance at the annual fundraiser for county Democrats but instead will remain in Washington, D.C., for weekend votes on the federal debt limit, said Liz Larter, who works on his campaign.
Larter said Inslee, 60, may speak to the Fish Feast group via Skype, the Internet video service.
The Fish Feast, a major fundraising event for the party for 17 years, will begin at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St. in Port Townsend, at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. Inslee was scheduled to speak at 5 p.m.
Inslee and state Attorney General Rob McKenna, a Bellevue Republican, have both announced as candidates for governor tn the November 2012 election. Gov. Chris Gregoire said she will not seek re-election to a third four-year term.
Fish Feast tickets are $41 and can be bought online at www.jeffcodemocrats.com.
The dinner will feature salmon grilled by Dos Okies, clams, mussels and oysters from Taylor Shellfish, greens and fruits from local farms, bread from Pane D’Amore, wine from the Wine Seller and beer from the Port Townsend Brewing Co.
McKenna’s has a campaign stop in Jefferson County scheduled for noon Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Jefferson County Republican Picnic on the lawn at the Port Ludlow Resort Marina.
