Investigation continuing into Wednesday bank holdup

SEQUIM — Besides releasing a blurry photograph of a suspected bank robber on Thursday, Sequim Police are keeping mum on the status of an investigation into the robbery at Kitsap Bank.

The bank at 990 E. Washington St. was held up Wednesday morning by a man who flashed a holstered pistol before demanding cash.

Initial reports from the scene said that the man, described as in his 50s, walked out of the bank with $4,000 to $6,000 and disappeared into the nearby Bell Creek Plaza parking lot.

No one was hurt.

Leads being investigated

Sequim Police Sgt. Sheri Crain said the department is working with the FBI and following leads, but declined to discuss the leads.

“We’d like to continue to encourage people who think they have information to come forward,” Crain said.

Bank robbery is a federal offense, which puts Wednesday’s holdup in the FBI’s jurisdiction.

Robbie Burroughs, spokeswoman for the FBI’s Seattle Field Office, did not return calls seeking comment Thursday.

Crain said that the photos recovered from the bank showing the suspected robber have been turned over to the FBI.

Photographic experts with the bureau will enhance the grainy photos, taken from the bank’s video security system, Crain said.
