CHIMACUM — State officials are continuing their investigation into how hay contaminated with a toxic weed poisonous to some livestock was sold to rancher Gerald Bishop.
Department of Agriculture investigators in Eastern Washington are in the initial stages of their investigation tracking down the source of the weed, Ali Kashani, the agency’s feed and fertilizer compliance coordinator, said Friday.
Meanwhile, the issue has captured the attention of state weed experts as well.
Steve McGonigal, executive secretary of the state Noxious Weed Control Board, said the weed in question — common groundsel — isn’t currently regulated by the state.
