PORT ANGELES — Work on the Hood Canal Bridge and graving yard projects could begin in late July after the state Department of Transportation awarded the $204 million contract.
Kiewit-General of Poulsbo. a joint operation of Kiewit Building Group and General Construction, won the costliest single Transportation contract.
Included in the contract are the eastern half of the floating bridge between Jefferson and Kitsap counties that will be replaced in 2006, and the giant graving yard dry dock in which pontoons and anchors for the bridge will be manufactured.
The graving yard will be built just east of the Daishowa America Ltd. paper mill on Marine Drive and could also be used for other projects in the future.
