PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles businessman Jake Oppelt has announced his candidacy for the four-year Position 2 Port Angeles City Council seat held by Lee Whetham, who has said he will be running for a second term in the Nov. 7 election.
Oppelt, co-owner of Next Door Gastropub, “looks forward to helping lead our community in a positive and healthy direction,” he said Friday in a prepared statement.
“From my experiences growing up in Port Angeles and moving into local business and community involvement, I have made the decision to direct my efforts to improve and promote Port Angeles from not only a private sector standpoint, but public service as well,” he said in the statement.
“I will seek and appreciate any and all support and advice, as well as criticism from fellow community members and city residents as this process unfolds.”
Oppelt’s Jam Properties of PA LLC purchased the shuttered Lincoln Theater in June for a performance venue.
He also co-owns the vacant Maurices building on West First Street across from the Gatstropub.
