With only one day left for candidates to file for this fall’s elections, no one has signed up for 11 seats on boards and commissions across Jefferson County.
Filing ends at 5 p.m. today at the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office.
If any of the nonpartisan positions don’t have a candidate by that time, a special three-day filing period will be opened next Wednesday through Friday, Auditor Donna Eldridge said Thursday.
If no one files for a specific office, the incumbent will continue to serve until the next odd-year election, in 2005.
If the incumbent doesn’t want to continue in his or her position, the person will have to resign and the other members of the board will appoint a new member, Chief Deputy Auditor Karen Cartmel said.
