Some 3,200 ballots remain to be counted from Tuesday’s primary election in Jefferson County after a malfunction in the tabulating machine delayed Friday’s count.
County Auditor Donna Eldridge reported a sensor in the tabulating machine quit working as the first ballots were counted Friday.
“The vendor sent a replacement piece by overnight mail and it should arrive Saturday,” Eldridge said Friday.
Eldridge said the Washington secretary of state had been notified of the problem with the tabulating machine and added she didn’t expect the remaining votes to change the outcome of two elections being decided during the primary.
Craddock Verser leads by more than 2,600 votes over Joan Best in the Superior Court judge’s election.
Verser had 69 percent of the votes after Tuesday night’s counting.
