PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners Monday officially hired a new county administrator, who is due to start work Oct. 16 at a record salary for the county.
Philip Morley, 54, assistant city manager in Maple Valley, will be paid $110,000 a year plus mileage, the commissioners agreed.
He will not receive a car allowance or a county vehicle.
The commissioners’ action, taken after a two-hour break in their Monday afternoon meeting, 20 minutes of which was in closed executive session, comes after a search of seven months.
Morley has been Maple Valley’s assistant city manager since March 2007.
He was hired at 80 percent time for $89,000 a year, but is working there full-time today at $107,000 a year, he said.
The Jefferson County administrator position was advertised as paying up to $120,000 a year, which is a considerable boost from that of John Fischbach, who left late last year making $89,000 annually plus a $360 monthly car allowance.
