Jefferson County commissioners voted Monday to raise property taxes by just 1 percent for 2002 — although the total proposed county budget will be 11.5 percent higher than this year’s.
An extraordinary amount of that increase will be covered instead by unemployment insurance and other reserves, most of which will go for capital projects.
The commissioners are scheduled to vote on the 2002 budget Dec. 17.
