Fred Hill Materials Inc. has submitted documents to Jefferson County showing the precise location where its proposed “pit to pier” quarry project could be built.
The company sent plans showing the 765 acres it wants set aside as “mineral resource” land near Shine. It narrows down an earlier application to set aside 6,200 acres of “mineral resource” land.
The mineral-resource designation is the first step in the company’s plans for the “pit to pier” project, which would feature a four-mile conveyor carrying rock to an 1,100-foot pier on Hood Canal.
A specific application for that project hasn’t been submitted.
The 765-acre site is located in the heart of the Thorndyke tree farm, about two miles west of Hood Canal and three miles south of state Highway 104.
