Jefferson County commissioners are set to fill a new board that would help figure out how the county could best acquire or protect environmentally sensitive areas, open space, farms and other lands it seeks to preserve.
Following interviews with 14 candidates last month, county commissioners are expected to appoint new Conservation Futures Advisory Board members either Monday or July 16.
The conservation board is charged with helping to devise criteria for spending a conservation futures tax which started in January. The property tax could raise more than $130,000 this year for conservation purposes in Jefferson County.
