PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners on Monday joined the ranks of several other government agencies across the North Olympic Peninsula by increasing property taxes by 1 percent.
The increase is the maximum allowed by state law without going to voters.
Clallam County, three cities and several school districts on the Peninsula have approved similar 1 percent boosts.
Jefferson County Assessor Jack Westerman III said county’s property tax increase will add $48,600 in revenue to the 2003 budget.
County commissioners are expected to give final approval to the budget next Monday.
