PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners are worried that wildfire hazard conditions in the county are ripe for a devastating blaze.
“Eastern Washington is in tremendous trouble,” Commissioner Glen Huntingford said Monday. “We’ll be there in about another week.”
To combat the problem, Huntingford, R-Chimacum, and Dan Titterness, R-Port Townsend, are urging residents to obey a burn ban in effect and go to a fire prevention education Web site, www.firewise.org.
At their Monday morning meeting, the commissioners also authorized the production of 80 signs warning of the fire danger.
