PORT TOWNSEND — In a 2-1 vote that shot down a citizens committee recommendation Monday, Jefferson County commissioners expanded the Teal Lake/Paradise Bay no-shooting zone to include Hood Canal shoreline south to the floating bridge.
The vote will be reviewed by the county’s chief civil deputy prosecuting attorney to determine if another public hearing is necessary.
The seven-member No Shooting Area Review Committee last week recommended to the commissioners in a 6-1 vote that the Paradise Bay no-shooting area remain the same, based on the low density of population in the area and limited support.
The two who voted to expand the zone, County Commissioners John Austin, D-Port Ludlow, and David Sullivan, D-Cape George, cited a petition from 34 Seven Sisters/Bywater Bay-area residents north of Shine and the Hood Canal Bridge.
