Jefferson: County fair, themed SaFAIRi, begins Friday

PORT TOWNSEND — Can’t afford a wildlife-watching trip into the African wilderness? Then stay in Jefferson County and enjoy a saFAIRi at home.

SaFAIRi is the theme of the 66th annual Jefferson County Fair taking place Friday through Sunday at the fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St.

Some of the many attractions are decorations of animals normally found in zoos on this continent.

There will be some real exotic animals, however. An educational reptile show is lined up to inform and entertain.

The fair kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday and concludes at 10 p.m. both days. On Sunday, the fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tickets are available at the fairground gates on 49th Street near Chinese Gardens.

Adult tickets are $5, students ages 13 to 18 and seniors are $4, children 7 to 12 are $1, and kids younger than 7 are free.

A three-day pass bought at the gate is $12, and includes the Sunday beef barbecue from noon to 6 p.m.

Tickets for the Saturday salmon bake from noon to 3 p.m. are $7.

Advance three-day passes are still available for $10 through Thursday evening in Port Townsend at Bank of America, Don’s Pharmacy, Pacific Northwest Bank, Penny Saver, Port Townsend Fire Department, Port Townsend Community Center, Port Townsend Paper Corp., QFC, Safeway, Swain’s and Washington Mutual.

In Port Hadlock and Chimacum, tickets are on sale at Cenex, Hadlock Building Supply, QFC and Templetons.

Tickets are also available at US Bank in Quilcene and the Nordland General Store on Marrowstone Island.
