PORT HADLOCK — Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners have postponed a special meeting originally set for today to consider an agreement with Puget Sound Energy.
The commissioners are expected to reschedule it on Friday at a time to be determined.
The commissioners said Monday they would meet today to discuss and possibly sign a definitive agreement with Puget Sound Energy to purchase the company’s East Jefferson County facilities so it can get into the electric service business.
PUD General Manager Jim Parker said the special meeting was rescheduled because Puget Sound Energy executives had not yet signed the document.
Meanwhile, the PUD commissioners are expected to attend a Clallam County Superior Court hearing scheduled at 11 a.m. in Port Angeles.
Two Port Townsend residents have filed a class-action lawsuit against the PUD, charging the agency has unlawfully levied a tax, making city property owners pay for water service they already receive from the city of Port Townsend.
Former Port Townsend City Councilman Ted Shoulberg and property manager Charles Haniford filed the lawsuit July 17 in Jefferson County Superior Court on behalf of about 6,000 city residents.
The lawsuit asks the court to order the PUD to end its taxation of Port Townsend residents and reimburse tax monies the city has paid.
