PORT TOWNSEND — Today is the final day of all-mail 2011 primary election voting in Jefferson County.

To be counted, ballots must be received by 8 p.m. by the county Auditor’s Office or postmarked by today.

Ballot totals crept upward Monday.

Voter turnout reached 9,394 ballots returned out of 21,828 issued, or 42.9 percent, in two primary election issues on which voters are casting ballots.

Jefferson County Library District No. 1 voters are deciding on an $8.4 million bond issue for the expansion and renovation of the library in Port Hadlock.

Port Townsend voters are voting on a City Council seat held by Laurie Medlicott, who is not running for re-election.

The ballot has four names, but only Jack Range and Deborah Stinson are actual candidates and will likely advance to the general election.

Paul Richmond and Pamela Adams withdrew from the race after the deadline had passed to remove their names from the ballot.

There were 6,846 ballots issued to city of Port Townsend voters, and 2,237 have been returned, a 32.7 percent participation rate.

The Auditor’s Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the courthouse at 1820 Jefferson St. in Port Townsend.

A drop box is located at the rear of the courthouse for ballots after 4:30 p.m.
