Jefferson County road department employees were mourning a fellow worker Monday after James B. Halvorson died in a Seattle hospital Friday.
“We’re hurting around here,” said road department foreman Paul Walters Monday afternoon. “It’s quiet.”
Mr. Halvorson suffered severe injuries when his county pickup crashed into a tree at the side of Center Road, south of Chimacum, on July 15.
Mr. Halvorson was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following the crash.
State Patrol public information officer Brian George said it is unknown if a medical condition might have caused the crash. Initial reports were that Mr. Halvorson might have suffered a heart attack.
Left work early
Walters said Mr. Halvorson, a flagger, had left work early because of a doctor’s appointment, but added that Mr. Halvorson was feeling fine.
“He was a pretty special guy,” Walters said. “He always went far beyond what was required as he did his job.”
Walters described Mr. Halvorson as “friendly” and “jolly.”
