In tonight’s first round of vote counting, John Austin, D-Port Ludlow, was beating challenger Jim Boyer to hold on to his third district seat on the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners.
Proposition 1, which would raise the sales tax in Jefferson County by 3 cents on a $10 retail purchase, was passing with a 55.6 percent yes vote.
Deputy Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Scott Rosekrans will take over the top job as prosecutor if his wide margin holds.
Jill Landes was winning in her bid for a second term on the Jefferson County District Court bench.
More mail ballots will be counted this week, beginning Wednesday.
The vote:
Prop. 1 — 7,090 yes, 55.61 percent; 5,659 no, 44.39 percent.
Austin, 7,465, 56.66 percent; Boyer, 5,665, 43 percent; write-in votes, 45, .34 percent
Rosekrans, 7,765, or 62.15 percent; Richmond, 4,701, 37.63 percent; write-ins, 27, .22 percent.
Landes, 6,195, 53.79 percent; Wood, 5,278, 45.83 percent; write-ins, 43, .37 percent.
