PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County officials are concerned, but not alarmed, by an apparent drop in sales tax revenues.
But they are worried about a dramatic decrease in permit revenues.
Treasurer Judi Morris recently briefed county commissioners on sales tax numbers through June.
Receipts show lagging sales compared to the same period for the last two years.
Community Development Director Al Scalf told commissioners he has collected just $162,868 through June, far less than the $217,720 collected by the same time last year.
Those numbers are troubling because permit fees also indicate potential sales tax revenues from material purchases, Scalf said.
