PORT TOWNSEND — The Board of Jefferson County Commissioners will interview and appoint an interim sheriff on Monday.
Interviews will take place at 2 p.m., 2:20 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. followed by an executive session from 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Public comment and deliberation will be open to the public from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St.
Commissioners Heidi Eisenhour, Heather Dudley-Nollette and Greg Brotherton will interview acting Sheriff Andy Pernsteiner, Sgt. Brett Anglin and Deputy Art Frank. The commissioners will take turns interviewing the candidates one on one.
The process is in response to former Sheriff Joe Nole’s retirement on Jan. 3.
Pernsteiner was appointed as acting sheriff by the board as Jefferson County Democrats gathered applicants for the interim role. Nole was a Democrat.
The appointed sheriff will serve until the November general election, when the position will be on the ballot.
The elected sheriff will serve a single year, which is the remainder of Nole’s term.
The next full-term election for the position will take place in November 2026.
