IRONDALE — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said it doesn’t suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found in Port Townsend Bay near Irondale last week.
As of Monday, authorities were still working to confirm his identity, according to Chief Criminal Deputy Arthur Frank.
According to Frank, investigators were able to confirm the deceased had been aboard a boat moored offshore and fell into the water either late in the evening of Oct. 10 or early in the morning Oct. 11.
Frank said detectives are still unsure whether he was alive or dead when he entered the water and are awaiting the results of an autopsy for more information, including cause and manner of death.
Both deputies and East Jefferson Fire-Rescue responders were dispatched to Monroe Street in Port Hadlock-Irondale last Tuesday after a body was reported in the water at 1 p.m.
According to Frank, the body was found only 12 feet offshore near a log dump.
The Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the ongoing investigation.
