The drowning death of a hiker has revived concerns over Graves Creek Road and Enchanted Valley trail conditions in remote west Jefferson County.
Area residents, Olympic National Park officials and the Quinault tribe are working to come up with a plan for much-needed repairs to the road and trail.
Amy Work drowned last Wednesday while trying to cross the East Fork Quinault River near where a bridge had previously washed out.
Graves Creek Road, located about 8 miles east of Lake Quinault in rural west Jefferson County, is the starting point for hikers entering Olympic National Park’s Enchanted Valley.
The road washed out in 1999 after heavy rains two summers ago.
