PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Economic Development Council is putting the final touches on a proposed county ordinance to govern use of the Community Investment Fund for economic development.
“We are close to bringing the ordinance forward for a public hearing and the approval of the county commissioners,” said Ann Avary, council director.
Avary gave an update on the EDC’s progress at Monday’s county commissioners’ meeting.
Jefferson County retains 0.08 percent of the sales and use tax for the fund, earmarked for financing infrastructure in rural counties. The tax generates approximately $180,000 a year, Avary said.
“It’s a great opportunity for this county,” she said. “I think it can make a significant impact.”
