The East Jefferson Fire Rescue board may offer a fire chief contract to one of its final candidates on Tuesday.
Charles “Chuck” Tandy has been announced as the finalist for the position in a statement from the fire district.
District officials were unavailable for comment at press time and no indication was made if Tandy would be present at the meeting.
A special meeting of the district board is to be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning at East Jefferson Fire Rescue Station 1-5, 35 Critter Lane, Port Townsend.
The agenda for that meeting says there will be a “possible contract offer” to Tandy.
Tandy has served as the fire chief in the Washington City, Utah, Depart ment of Public Safety department since June 2006.
In his public introduction in October, Tandy said he has 28 years of professional experience, he said, including 17 years in progressive management and administrative positions that required quick decision-making, problem resolution, leadership and tactful public relations.
Four finalists for the position, which has been vacant since January, met the public last month and interviewed with members of local law enforcement, Jefferson County government, the city of Port Townsend, and fire district staff members.
The district — which serves Port Townsend, Cape George, Chimacum, Irondale, Kala Point, Marrowstone Island and Port Hadlock — has been without a permanent chief since former Chief Mike Mingee left in January for a position as the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District chief in Santa Barbara County, Calif.
