A Poulsbo firefighter will become the new full-time fire operations chief for Jefferson County Fire District No. 6, district commissioners decided at a meeting Monday night.
Warren Edward Erhardt, 58, was chosen by the Cape George-based fire department commissioners from more than 30 applicants, two of whom were interviewed by the commissioners Monday.
Erhardt has been a paid staff firefighter for the Poulsbo Fire Department since 1995, and a volunteer since 1990.
As operations chief, Erhardt’s job will include responding to emergency calls as well as instituting various fire safety awareness programs.
Commissioner Grey Pohl said she hoped hiring the new operations chief would help douse some of the dissension and controversy the department has seen over the past year.
