High winds knocked over a fireworks stand, pushed a 50-foot sailboat aground and fanned the flames of a spate of small grass fires Wednesday.
Port Townsend firefighters put out five blazes caused by fireworks, including a fire on the beach near Indian Point.
A second fire ignited in the bed of a pickup in the Jefferson County Recreation Center parking lot, Port Townsend Fire Department Public Information Officer Patrick Young said.
That fire is being investigated by the Port Townsend Police Department.
City fire crews also extinguished a grass fire at Mountain View Elementary School in Port Townsend and a small blaze in Glen Cove.
County firefighters
Jefferson County’s seven fire districts also battled several grass fires, but no major blazes were reported.
