The cumulative effect of warm rain and melted snow led to evacuations and road closures in south Jefferson County on Tuesday.
Homes were evacuated after the Duckabush River south of Brinnon overflowed, popping open large propane tanks.
U.S. Highway 101 near Lilliwaup remained closed for a second day following a slide on Monday.
Transportation officials are now saying the highway could be closed for up to a week.
The problems were partly the result of several days of warm weather and an abundance of rain, which caused snow and ice to melt in the mountains and send water down tributaries.
In Brinnon, a half-dozen homes near the Duckabush River were evacuated Tuesday morning after the river overflowed and knocked loose five propane tanks.
Some of the 500-gallon tanks were carried more than 100 feet and sprung leaks.
