CHIMACUM — More than 300 people — including at least 200 members of a group opposed to Fred Hill Materials Inc. plans to build its “pit-to-pier” project in Shine — attended a Jefferson County Planning Commission meeting Wednesday to voice opinions on a request to designate more than 6,200 acres as “mineral resources land.”
Planning commissioners met to gather oral testimony on the requested land use redesigation. Written testimony will be taken until Oct. 1.
The Planning Commission will then make a recommendation on the comprehensive plan amendment to Jefferson County commissioners by November.
Commissioners will likely rule in December.
