PORT TOWNSEND –Twenty-two people filed to run for elected offices countywide Monday, the first day of filing in the fall election cycle.
Nearly 50 elected positions throughout Jefferson County — everything from a cemetery board to Port Townsend City Council — will be on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
Most candidates filing Monday were incumbents.
There are no partisan elections on the ballot this fall.
They include Port of Port Townsend Commissioners Herb Beck (Position No. 3) and Conrad Pirner (Position No. 2), Hospital District No. 2 Commissioners Joe Wheeler (Position No. 3) and Jill Buhler (Position No. 5), Fire District No. 3 Commissioners David L. Wheeler (Position No. 2), Howard T. Morse (Position No. 3) and Eugene Carmody Jr. (Position No. 4) and Quilcene School Board member Sharon Merrick (Position No. 2).
Contested seat
The only seat being contested so far is Hospital District No. 2 Position No. 3.
Robert W. Bentley of Port Townsend, a retired hospital administrator, threw his hat into the ring for that seat.
He will be running against incumbent Commissioner Joe Wheeler.
