PORT TOWNSEND — An Edmonds man has donated five acres of forested land near Quilcene to help fund the Port Townsend City Hall restoration effort.
George Barber signed the property, valued at $35,000, over to the Jefferson County Historical Society last week.
The historical group said it intends to sell the land on Lords Lake Loop to garner money toward restoration of the 112-year-old building in downtown Port Townsend.
“It would be a terrible thing not to save this building,” said Barber, who frequently visits the area.
“I’ve always enjoyed coming here, and I am hopeful that my contribution will inspire other people to donate toward this important cause as well.”
Historical Society President Barbara Marseille said the land donation was a “generous” kickoff to the funding campaign.
