Jefferson: New owner takes over Old Alcohol Plant

PORT HADLOCK — The Old Alcohol Plant has a new owner.

RealVest Corp. recently acquired 80 percent interest in the historic former wood alcohol plant that is now a resort.

RealVest President Paul E. Christensen said the company plans to make improvements to the buildings and ground almost immediately.

Larger, long-term projects, however, won’t be advanced in the near future.

“We’ll start spending money pretty quickly,” he said.

“Some of the roofs and walls need to be protected from the environment. Then, the parking lot could be paved to make the place more presentable.

“We do want to upgrade the rooms in both character and quality.”

The first change could well be the name.

Last week, Christensen asked Port Hadlock/Tri-Area Chamber of Commerce members what they thought of a possible name change.

Many said they wouldn’t object, though they suggested retaining some moniker referring to the inn’s historic beginnings, he said.
