PORT TOWNSEND — A high-profile murder case has county commissioners thinking about security in the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Other than signs saying that weapons are prohibited, there is nothing to prevent someone from bringing a gun or other weapon into a courtroom, commissioners said Monday.
Other counties screen courtroom visitors with metal detectors to keep weapons away from courtrooms.
Monday’s security discussion surfaced in the wake of the slaying of prominent Port Hadlock businessman Frank M. “Skip” Smith Jr. at his towing business two weeks ago.
