PORT LUDLOW — A proposal to build a “pit-to-pier” project in eastern Jefferson County became a focal point in a debate between 3rd District county commissioner candidates Thursday night.
Pat Rodgers, R-Brinnon, and Mark Rose, D-Brinnon, squared off Thursday night at the Port Ludlow Bay Club.
Rodgers became enraged at what he believed were comments suggesting he was in favor of the Fred Hill Materials Inc. proposed “pit-to-pier” conveyor belt and pier project for gravel extraction.
“I have never, ever been for that project,” he stated firmly.
He looked toward Rose’s campaign manager, Sue Marett, sitting in the back of the room and asked her if he ever said he was for it.
“You said you needed more information,” Marett responded.
“That’s right,” Rodgers responded. “I said I needed more information because I believe in due process. Everyone has the right to make their case.”
