A four-year Quilcene schools maintenance and operations levy, failing by a narrow margin after Tuesday’s election, has proponents keeping their fingers crossed.
“It’s hard to say which way it will go,” said Quilcene High School Senior Andy Beeler. “I’m hoping and praying.”
At least 16 absentee ballots collected at the polls on Tuesday remain to be counted for Quilcene on Friday.
But to change the levy results, all but two of those would have to be “yes” votes.
Property tax levies require a supermajority of 60 percent to pass.
After Tuesday night’s tally, the measure had a 58.99 percent yes vote.
