Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Piccini, retiring this year after two terms in office, is endorsing Democrat Mike Brasfield as his successor.
Piccini, a Republican, crossed party lines to endorse Democrat Brasfield, who is running against Port Townsend Police Chief Kristen Anderson-Post, a Republican, in the partisan election.
Piccini, in a letter to the PDN, said Brasfield’s experience, which includes jobs as assistant police chief in Seattle and police chief in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., made him the better choice.
“There is no question that former Police Chief Mike Brasfield is the right person for the job,” he said.
Anderson-Post, who has been endorsed by the Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff’s Association and other groups, said Thursday she had no comment.
