PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners on Monday approved a timeline extension for the shoreline master program process that would give the county Planning Commission until June 30 to complete a final draft to the county commissioners.
The action also would give the county commissioners until Oct. 30 to submit the shore master program update to the state Department of Ecology.
County Associate Planner Michelle McConnell, who has facilitated the Shoreline Master Program update process, said DOE would be amenable to the extension.
The county’s state funding runs out June 30 because funds are short, McConnell said, and county staff would have to complete the project thereafter.
Final Shoreline Master Program adoption would likely take place sometime in 2010.
The state Legislature’s deadline for a decision is 2011.
