PORT HADLOCK — A 33-year-old man who was the subject of an intensive manhunt Saturday in South Jefferson County has surrendered at the Jefferson County jail.
“He turned himself in,” Undersheriff Ken Sukert said Wednesday of Daniel James Gilmore.
Gilmore was jailed for investigation of possessing a firearm while a felon, and of resisting arrest.
Sukert said the latter charge stems from Gilmore eluding a contingent of law enforcement officers from several jurisdictions in the Quilcene area on Saturday afternoon.
Gilmore allegedly ran into a wooded area when a sheriff’s deputy approached him after police dispatchers received two reports of a man walking around armed with what appeared to be a handgun.
Support from Clallam
Additional Jefferson County deputies were joined by four deputies from Clallam County, two Port Townsend officers, two State Patrol troopers, a fisheries officer, a Forest Service officer and a police dog from Port Angeles in trying to locate Gilmore.
At one point, officers set up a perimeter around an area south of Quilcene near the Quilcene Campground and U.S. Forest Service ranger station after a tribal police officer saw the man flee into the woods.
Traffic on U.S. Highway 101 in Quilcene was stopped for about 45 minutes while law enforcement officers awaited the arrival of the police dog unit from Port Angeles.
