Two Port Townsend attorneys have applied for the Jefferson County Superior Court bench held by Thomas J. Majhan, who died earlier this month.
The position pays $108,300 annually, but whoever is appointed will have to seek election in the fall to retain the position.
Jennifer Joly, general counsel to Washington Gov. Gary Locke, said Karen Gates Hildt and William Charles Henry have applied for the position.
She said she expects additional applications before the Feb. 5 deadline.
“I’ve received letters of recommendation for other attorneys in the community,” Joly said Wednesday.
Joly plans to interview applicants in Port Townsend in mid-February and expects Locke to choose a new judge by the end of the month.
