Jefferson: Weather calms down after winds buffet eastern county – The calmer weather the National Weather Service predicted took its time coming to East Jefferson County. – High wind and heavy rain were just as devastating on trees and power lines Friday

By sunrise on Saturday morning, sunbeams peered through banks of scattered clouds in the northern part of the county.

The peak wind speed recorded Friday at the Jefferson County Courthouse was 60 mph.

As a whole, the wind remained at a constant 25-30 mph.
